Former China Telecom chairman sentenced to six years for bribery

Chang Xiaobing, former chairman and chief executive of China Telecom, was sentenced to six years in prison for taking bribes, a court in north China's Hebei Province said on Wednesday.
According to the Baoding Intermediate People's Court, Chang took advantage of his posts as deputy director of the Directorate General of Telecommunications and chairman of China Unicom from 1998 to 2004 to offer favors to other institutions, accepting bribes worth over 3.76 million yuan (around 550,000 US dollars).
The court fined Chang 500,000 yuan (around 72,850 US dollars) and ordered that his illicit gains be confiscated.
