The approval rating for Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's cabinet has plunged in the middle of a nationalist school scandal.
A survey by the Nippon News Network shows that more than 80 percent of people do not believe Abe's argument that he has nothing to do with the scandal involving school operator Moritomo Gakuen. The scandal erupted last month after media reports that the Morimoto had purchased state-owned land at a price much lower than the appraised value.
The Abes have denied allegations that the Prime Minister's wife, Akie, donated one million yen (nearly 9,000 US dollars) to the school in September 2015 on behalf of her husband. But on Saturday, the Mainichi Shimbun published a copy of a post office deposit receipt for one million yen. The Prime Minister's name is visible through the correction fluid.
