Cyclone Debbie has hit Queensland's popular tourist destination of Hamilton Island where winds of up to 260 kilometers per hour have caused extensive damage.
The cyclone, which has ripped across Australia's tropical northeast, has been weakening as it moved inland after making landfall in the early hours of Tuesday morning, causing widespread destruction and power outages.
By Tuesday evening, Cyclone Debbie had been downgraded from a category 4 to a category 2 storm.
The full extent of the storm destruction is not yet known.
