Rural Revitalization: Government prioritizes agriculture and rural development
[]
General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed a rural revitalization strategy in a report at the 19th CPC National Congress. Xi said that issues relating to agriculture, rural areas, and rural people are fundamental to China as they directly concern the country's stability and people's wellbeing.
The development of agriculture and rural areas should be a priority on the government's work agenda. Over the past years, China made substantial achievements in boosting rural development and farmers' livelihoods. In 2016, 99-point-5 percent of farmers had their own houses. Nearly 99 percent of townships nationwide have access to buses. A total of 1-point-3 million kilometers of rural roads have been built in the past five years. For every hundred households, there are 25 sedans, 32 computers, and 240 cellphones, a big leap compared to 2006.
