China is warning that a US warship entered its waters in the South China Sea without permission.
Beijing added it will take "necessary measures" to protect its sovereignty. The missile destroyer, USS Hopper, came within 12 nautical miles of Huangyan Island on Wednesday - and was ordered to withdraw. China's defense ministy called the move disruptive and said it endangered ships and personnel of both countries.
