Safe zones established in Syria will be closed to US and US-led coalition warplanes, Reuters has reported citing Russian envoy Alexander Lavrentyev at Syria peace talks in Astana on Friday.
Russia, Turkey and Iran signed a memorandum on Friday on creating four safe zones in Syria, following the latest round of peace talks in the Kazakh capital Astana on Thursday.
The four safe zones will cover all of Idlib Province, as well as parts of Aleppo, Latakia and Homs, the Turkish Foreign Ministry revealed, adding that all use of weapons would be banned in those areas, while humanitarian aid would be allowed to be brought in.
Turkey and Iran agreed to Russia's proposal for "de-escalation zones" in Syria, but the Syrian opposition delegation refused to accept the deal, media has reported.
The safe zones are regarded as a move welcomed by the UN but met with skepticism from the US.
