United Airlines has apologized yet again for its rough treatment of a paying passenger who threatened to sue in a case that has sent the company’s share price crashing.
The American carrier also denied allegations the issue of race was involved when Dr. David Dao was chosen as one of the passengers on a Chicago-Louisville flight to be kicked off to make way for airline personnel.
“What happened to my dad should never happen to any human being regardless of the circumstance. We were horrified and shocked and sickened to learn what happened and to see what happened,” Crystal Dao Pepper, the passenger’s daughter, said during a press conference.
Dao's attorney said he was suing United, after his client suffered a concussion and facial injuries that will need surgery to repair.

Chicago's City Council Aviation committee called for a hearing with officials from United. The City Council employs the three security guards who wrestled and dragged Dao off the United flight.
United has said Dao's case was an isolated incident, although council officials were shown video of another of the airline's passengers being dragged off a flight. “It’s not a set policy... There is no script for this, no," said a United official at the hearing. The company called the previous case “a different set of circumstances.”
