At least eight people were injured, including one critically, after a float crashed on Sunday evening during the world-famous carnival parade in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The accident occurred when a float of samba school Paraiso de Tuiuti hit a fence used to separate the stands from the pavement, injuring several participants and audiences, Associated Press reported.
Initial reports indicated that the pavement was wet after persistent drizzle, which made it hard to operate and direct the big floats.
Brazil kicked off the Rio carnival on February 24. A competition will be held among samba schools as each school‍ will give a 75-minute presentation featuring at least six floats. The contest is set to commence on Sunday night and end on Tuesday morning.
