Volcano in the Philippines: Drill held to prepare for possible damages
[]
Multiple Philippine government agencies held a preparedness drill on Sunday near an erupting volcano in the country's central region.
The drill is to ensure troops and equipment are ready for any damage caused by either the erupting Mount Mayon or the intense rains in the area. The Philippines earlier warned of the risk of volcanic mud flow from the slopes of Mayon. The volcano has been active since January 13th, producing lava, ash and molten rock. It has driven almost 80 thousand villagers from their homes. The Philippines has about 22 active volcanoes. The Mount Pinatubo eruption in 1991 was one of the biggest of the 20th century, and killed hundreds.
