Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his US counterpart Rex Tillerson exchanged views about issues concerning China-US relations and regional security during their meeting in Beijing on Saturday afternoon.
Tillerson's first visit to China has drawn much attention, as the two sides are finalizing details for the first summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Donald Trump. It is reported that the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders could take place in early April.
Wang Yi and Tillerson also discussed some regional issues, including alleviating tensions on the Korean Peninsula, preventing the DPRK from developing nuclear missiles, as well as dealing with the problem of the US deployment of the THAAD system in the Republic of Korea.
China’s State Councilor Yang Jiechi will meet with Tillerson later on Saturday afternoon.
