National Basketball Association: Boston 114 - Philadelphia 103
[]
Over to the NBA, as the league continues to try and expand its reach. The Association playing another game in London, the eighth time they have done that, as the Boston Celtics faced the Philadelphia 76ers. The Celts came to the British Capital ten years ago for a contest, and that same season they went on to win their last NBA title. Kyrie Irving and the East-leading Celtics are hoping for a similar result this year -- but when it came to this game -- they would not have it easy against the young Sixers.
Early on it is all Philly, first the block on one end by Joel Embiid on Kyrie Irving, and that leads to a fast break the other way -- and J-J Redick hits the off balance 3. He had 22, and it's a 7-point lead for the team from the City of Brotherly Love.
Then Embiid does it on the offensive end, outmuscling Aron Baynes on the low block. Philly opens up a 15-point margin.
Another of the Sixers young guns then goes to work, as Ben Simmons gets into the lane and is able to get the tough fallaway jumper. The lead is 20 -- it got to be 22 at one point.
Boston starts fighting back in the second half, Irving is left wide-open from outside the arc, and he cans the deep triple. The C's trimming the margin to just 8. 20 for Kyrie.
Then they go in front off some nice passing, Daniel Theis rocking the rim, as the green shirts grab their first lead of the game 69-68.
The Beantowners have all the momentum and stretch the lead to 6 thanks to the Al Horford three-ball.
And things are definitely going Boston's way in the second half, Marcus Morris loses the handle, but gets it back and finds Terry Rozier for the trey. Celts now up 11 as they coast to their seventh straight win. After the game, the NBA commissioner would discuss playing more games overseas.
