Burundi has suspended the importation of poultry from Uganda following reports of the country being hit by bird flu, the government has said.
“The Burundian government has taken preventive measures against bird flu that has already been declared in Uganda. Those measures include suspension of importation of poultry from Uganda as well as eggs and meat from Uganda and other contaminated countries,” Reuters quoted the Burundian Agriculture and Livestock Minister Deo-Guide Rurema as saying.

According to Rurema, the specialized technical directorate in charge of livestock will closely monitor the situation of bird flu in the world and update the list of contaminated countries.
“Burundi is also going to update and validate the national contingency plan on the fight against bird flu,” Rurema said.
He added that strict control on border posts and surveillance of migratory birds will be operated.
