National Basketball Association: Charlotte 133 - Indiana 126
[]
We're back with basketball beginning with the NBA, and the Charlotte Hornets at home to face the Indiana Pacers, who came in on a three-game winning streak. But the hosts would serve notice in the first quarter that they were out to end that run as a franchise record in points, thanks in part to great play from Kemba Walker, gets them off to a great start.
Two minutes in and Nicolas Batum spots up at the top of the arc and cans the triple. The Frenchman would finish with 31. Batum tries his luck again from distance and Walker taps back the rebound. He then gets open on the wing, and his three makes it 16-6 Charlotte to get his bench on their feet.
Last seconds of the first quarter and Michael Carter-Williams charges down court and gets the floater to fall. The Hornets score a franchise record 49 points in the first quarter, also the highest of any quarter in the NBA this season.
Midway through the second and Charlotte continue to pour it on as Walker hits another three. 62-45 for the hosts. But Indy will start to fight back as Victor Oladipo floats in two of his team-high 35 points. And the comeback is complete when Myles Turner connects from deep to tie it up at 82. But Walker takes over in the fourth quarter, hitting four of six attempts including this beautiful step back three. He would have a game-high 41 points.
And with five and a half minutes to go, Walker helps put it to bed as the Hornets go on to win 133-126, their second victory in a row. Elsewhere, Kevin Durant had 33 in Golden State's win, Terry Rozier scored a career high 31 in Boston's victory, Toronto got 35 from DeMar DeRozan to top Portland, the Bucks edged the Knicks by two, rookie Donovan Mitchell poured in 40 points as Utah crushed Phoenix, and Anthony Davis had 43 points to lead New Orleans over OKC, whose Russell Westbrook tallied his 16th triple double of the season.
