China & The Olympics: Previously hosted 2008 Summer & 2014 Youth Games
[]
It will be the third time that China has hosted an Olympics -- following the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing, and the Youth Olympics in Nanjing three years ago.
Beijing was chosen for the 29th Olympics in 2001 and ran the Games under the theme "One world, One dream". The centre-piece of the event was most definitely the Beijing National Stadium, better known as "The Bird's Nest" because of its distinctive structure. It hosted both the opening and closing ceremonies.
In 2014, the second Summer Youth Olympic Games was held in the eastern city of Nanjing. It served as a sports, education and cultural festival for teenagers from all over the world. The various colors of its logo symbolized the energetic spirit of youth.
Then in 2015, Beijing beat Almaty to host the 2022 Winter Olympics. A dozen venues will be used, half of them newly-built. All the ice sports will be held in Beijing, while Yanqing County and the city of Zhangjiakou will be used for the disciplines on snow.
