We start in South Korea, where the country's president Moon Jae-in has just delivered a New Year's Speech. Moon stressed that denuclearization will be their goal. The speech came just one day after South Korea and the DPRK held their first formal talks in more than two years. Li Jianhua has more.
"A war will never be allowed to occur on the Korean Peninsula" This is what Moon Jae-in stressed in his speech.
He said the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula is "the path to peace".
MOON JAE-IN SOUTH KOREAN PRESIDENT "Denuclearization is our goal, and we will work hard to achieve this goal. And this is our fundamental stance, we will not change it."
South Korean President Moon Jae-in says he believes Tuesday's talks with the DPRK would be a "turning point". And the Pyeongchang Olympic Games will be a bond between the two sides.
MOON JAE-IN SOUTH KOREAN PRESIDENT "The DPRK has agreed to participate the Pyeongchang Olympics. And we also postpone the joint military drills with the United States. We always say we want the Pyeongchang Olympics game to be a peace Olympics."
However, Moon Jae-in also said South Korea will not unilaterally lift sanctions against the DPRK.
MOON JAE-IN SOUTH KOREAN PRESIDENT "We will keep sanctions against the DPRK with the international community, and bring them back onto the negotiation table through diplomatic ways."
Moon also said a leader's summit between South Korea and the DPRK is possible.
