The Japanese foreign minister was interviewed by the Hong Kong-based Phoenix TV in Tokyo earlier this week. He said he hoped his visit would promote stronger ties between the two countries.
When questioned about the territorial dispute over the Diaoyu Islands, Kono said he believed that air and sea emergency management is critical and that he planned to discuss this mechanism during his visit.  He emphasized that Shinzo Abe's government is willing to work with China under the Belt and Road Initiative, adding that it's willing to cooperate on projects that abide by international standards.
