China's State Council appoints Carrie Lam as new HKSAR Chief Executive

China's State Council on Friday appointed Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor as the new chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).
According to the decision made at a meeting presided over by Premier Li Keqiang, Lam will take office on July 1.
The HKSAR held the election for the fifth-term chief executive on Mar 26. Lam won 777 votes of the 1,194 votes cast by members of the Election Committee.
