The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) has held a one-day forum in Uganda, focusing on empowerment and entrepreneurship. The forum is designed to help young and unemployed people in the country match their skills with available job opportunities.
Uganda has one of the youngest populations in the world, but a recent national census showed that 65 percent of those aged between 20 and 24 are unemployed.
Experts attribute the problem to a skills mismatch in the labor market.
Fiona Rukwanzi, who displayed her product Nyunya probiotic yoghurt at the summit, told CGTN’s Hillary Ayesiga that she attained knowledge to start her business from YALI.
The forum organizers plan to roll out the program to the countryside, and hope that more young Ugandans will gain skills to setup self-sustaining projects.
