The public approval rating for Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has plunged since evidence came to light that he was possibly involved in a nationalist school scandal.
A survey by Nippon News Network shows that Abe's popularity rating has declined to less than 50 percent. Most Japanese surveyed say they believe Abe helped school operator Moritomo Gakuen open a nationalist school. Morimoto allegedly purchased state-owned land at a discounted price.
Abe has also denied allegations that his wife Akie donated 1 million yen (nearly 9,000 US dollars) to the school on his behalf. But Japanese media published a post office deposit receipt for one million yen, with the Prime Minister's name clearly written on it.
