Winter Strikes China: Police work around the clock to help people in need

Weather experts say heavy snowfall across central and eastern China will start to ease in the coming days. Welcome news, as police continue to work under harsh winter conditions to help people in need. Tang Meng has the story.
The snow on some roads in Liu'an city, in east China's Anhui Province, has piled up more than 20 centimeters high. An expectant mother anxiously waited for help after her car got stuck in the snow. But she didn't have to wait long! Local firemen and medical crew got there just in time.
In Fuyang city, a roof collapsed under the weight of snow. A woman trapped beneath a freezing steel plate didn't have long to live. According to her neighbour, police tirelessly worked to save the woman's life.
In Shiyan city, in central China's Hubei Province, a seriously ill patient needed to be transferred to another hospital despite dangerously stormy weather. To secure the safety of both the patient and the medical workers, a police car drove ahead of the ambulance.
On Sunday, China's weather authorities issued a blue warning for heavy rain and cold. Guangxi, Guangdong and Fujian provinces are expected to see some heavy rain. Shandong and Anhui provinces are forecast to receive more snow through Monday. But heavy snowfall for the rest of China is expected to end.
Provinces in central and eastern China will experience strong winds and colder weather over the next three days, as temperatures drop to zero degrees centigrade along southern parts of the Yangtze River valley.
