The so-called “Cultures of China, Festival of Spring” troupes, sponsored by the State Council’s Overseas Chinese Affairs Office (OCAO) and the China Overseas Exchanges Association, started to stage galas overseas in 2009 to celebrate the Lunar New Year with overseas Chinese and promote Chinese culture across the globe.
The show featured the cultures of China’s different ethnic groups, including Mongolian dancing and Tibetan singing, while soprano Wang Qingshuang tugged at heartstrings with nostalgic songs. ‍

These performances not only appeal to overseas Chinese, but also popularize Chinese culture among Italians, said Chen Zhengxi, president of the Association of Chinese Business Owners in Italy.
The gala concluded with the audience standing and singing with Cai Guoqing and Yan Weiwen, two household names in China.
