Korean Peninsula Tensions: Chinese FM: Vancouver Meeting will not lead to solution

As the DPRK and South Korea worked together to finalize plans for the PyeongChang Olympics, representatives from 20 nations gathered in Vancouver, Canada to discuss keeping up pressure on Pyongyang. Here's China's response to the meeting.
LU KANG CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTRY SPOKESPERSON "Practice has proved that constant pressure and sanctions only complicate the problem. The United States and Canada have displayed a 'Cold War mentality' in holding the Vancouver meeting, and are only making the situation worse, creating more conflict. The meeting cannot promote a solution to the issue without the presence of all participants on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue."
The 20-nation gathering was hosted by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and his Canadian counterpart, Chrystia Freeland. The two countries say the goal was to discuss enforcement of UN sanctions already in place. But they also said in a joint statement that the 20 nations agreed to consider imposing unilateral sanctions on Pyongyang that go beyond the UN sanctions. China and Russia were not invited to Vancouver.
