We begin in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, and the second day of Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit to the country. It's the first visit to Laos by a Chinese head of state since 2006.

On Monday, President Xi met Lao President Bounnhang Vorachit and held talks with the former Lao President. On Tuesday, he held talks with Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith. He then joined the Lao president for a foundation-laying ceremony for a hospital that will be built by China. President Xi also met the descendants of former Lao Foreign Minister Quinim Pholsena who sought closer ties with China before he was assassinated in 1963.
