Global Markets: Stocks continue new year rally on Tuesday
[]
First off, a look at global markets. Stocks in world indexes have continued their flying start to the year. Wall Street's main indexes hit record highs at Tuesday's open, extending a winning streak since the start of 2018.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.4 percent; the S&P 500, 0.1 percent; and the Nasdaq Composite, 0.1 percent. The strong performance is due to a rally in bank stocks and investors' upbeat outlook over the fourth-quarter earnings season. In Europe, the FTSE 100 index rose 0.4 percent and the MSCI's gauge of stocks across the globe rose 0.2 percent.
