China’s amphibious aircraft AG600 makes first glide test

China's largest amphibious aircraft, the AG600, successfully made its first glide test in Zhuhai, south China's Guangdong Province on Saturday, according to the China Aviation Industry General Aircraft Co., Ltd. (AVIC).
The 37-meter-long AG600, having a wingspan of 38.8 meters, is the world's largest amphibian aircraft, about the size of a Boeing 737, according to AVIC Deputy General Manager Geng Ruguang.

The aircraft is designed for extinguishing forest fires and marine rescue missions.‍ According to the original design, it can collect 12 tonnes of water in 20 seconds, and can transport up to 370 tonnes of water on a single tank of fuel.

Other tests and check-ups are underway. The AG600 is expected to make its maiden flights as early as May.
