‍China is the world's most populous country with 1.388 billion people, accounting for 18.47 percent of the total world population, according to the latest UN estimates. As a whole, China currently has an estimated population density of 148 people per square kilometer.
China's natural growth rate (crude birth rate minus crude death rate) rose by 0.09 percent in 2016, owing to the highest birth rates recorded since 2000.
In China, there are more men (51.2 percent) than women (48.8 percent), and those above 65 years of age account for 10.35 percent of the whole population.
By the end of 2016, over 20 million more people moved to cities compared with the year before. Urban population in China accounts for 59.1 percent of the country’s total population.
