Recently, metro commuters in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, might have had a bit of anxiety over the safety of the city’s Line 3 subway line after a post entitled, “Do you dare to ride the metro line 3?” was spread on the Internet earlier this week.
The person who composed the long-winded post has not been identified so far, but the person claimed himself to be a worker at the Shaanxi Aokai Cable Co. Limited, the contractor of cables on Line 3.

At the very beginning of the post, the hazards of the cables to life and surrounding environment produced by the company are emphasized with the word, “huge.”

The person in the post asserts that the company used shoddy and inferior materials to manufacture cables for the metro line, which was not tested up to the standard of the Xi’an Metro, but the manager, Wang Zhiwei, bought off the officials of the city’s administration of quality and technology supervision so all the cables would finally be accredited as qualified.

The post also exposes how the company has won bids of offering cables to metro lines in Xi’an and Chengdu. Intentionally reducing production costs is another trump card of the company to sign contacts with many metro operators, apart from bribery.
Having been stormed by netizens, the company published a statement on its official website on Thursday, in which the company denied all remarks and affirmed them to be groundless.

Later Thursday, the city authorities also interfered in the investigation and dispatched officials from the administrations of quality supervision, work safety and the local police to the metro line for a check of the cables. The Xi’an Metro has also sent workers to screen the cables laid on Line 3.
The Shaaxi Aokai Co., Ltd was founded in 2012 and is headquartered in Xianyang, around 30km from Xi’an, the provincial city of Shaanxi Province. According to the Chinese Business Newspaper, six batches of cables have been tested below the mark since 2015.
