China's State Council Information Office has released a white paper highlighting progress in human rights protection in the nation.
Titled New Progress in the Legal Protection of Human Rights in China, the white paper states that the country has revised its Criminal Law to abolish nine death penalty charges, granted amnesty for four types of criminals, and taken care of special groups like adolescents and the disabled.
The paper says to ensure the legal protection of human rights, China has been working on areas like lawmaking, administration and jurisdiction. It also details China's efforts to raise public awareness on the rule of law and human rights protection. The paper says China has contributed to global human rights causes by taking part in UN peacekeeping missions and cracking down on international criminals. It also states that the rule of law is the guarantee of human rights protection.
