The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology of Myanmar issued a red alert on Sunday that Tropical Cyclone Maarutha, which is moving northeastwards from the eastern Bay of Bengal to Myanmar, will make the landfall in the coastal state of Rakhine, within 12 hours.
Traveling at around 95 to 135 kmph, the cyclone will bring huge waves with heavy rain and suffer strong wind on Sunday and Monday, the department said, citing the forecast released at 13:30 p. m. local time. Most southern areas of Myanmar are expected to be affected.
The authorities also warned of flooding and landslide.
