UCI World Tour – Guangxi: Gaviria dominates third stage

We head down south to Beihai for cycling and the UCI World Tour series. Its final stop this year is the Tour of Guangxi, where Colombian rider Fernando Gaviria continued his dominant run by winning his third straight stage and extending his overall lead in the process.

Stage three is a circuit race around the city of Nanning, the capital of Guangxi province. It features four laps of a flat 31 kilometer route. Daniel Oss of BMC, Nuno Bico of Movistar, and Jack Haig of Orica-Scott forge clear inside the first 10 kilometers and build a lead of about two minutes.

Racing in the red jersey of overall leader, Gaviria again proves strongest in the dash to the finish as the 23-year-old earns another day at the top of the general, sprint, and best young rider classifications. Like in stage 2, it is Max Walscheid of Sunweb that is the Colombian's greatest challenger, while Magnus Cort of Orica-Scott rounds out the podium.

Tomorrow's 4th stage of the six-leg Chinese race ends with a climb of roughly 3 kilometers, which is likely to decide the general classification. Gaviria currently leads the race by 13 seconds ahead of Silvan Dillier, while Walscheid is a further five seconds back.
