The world's richest man, Bill Gates, has been elected to the Chinese Academy of Engineering, one of country's top science think tanks. The Microsoft co-founder is one of the 18 new foreign members of the institution. He's said to be the only one who does not work at a university or research institute. Gates was nominated for his work at TerraPower, a nuclear reactor design company he helped set-up in 2008. This new round of elections brings the number of foreign members at the CAE to 66. The CAE and the Chinese Academy of Sciences advise the government and industry on key scientific and technological issues.
