One-China principle as the core
The meetings and high-level interactions between the two parties will safeguard the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations under the current situation, An Fengshan, spokesperson for the State Council’s Taiwan Affairs Office stated on Wednesday.
He highlighted that cross-Strait ties have experienced fruitful development since 2008, and noted that the achievements were possible because the two sides stuck to the 1992 Consensus and opposed Taiwan independence, and took one-China principle as the core.
Strengthen cooperation mechanism
Wang Jianmin, a researcher with the Institute of Taiwan Studies Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said Hung’s visit indicates the CPC’s support for the KMT as well as the party’s trust that Hung will form a strong force against Taiwan independence.
Wang said Hung’s visit will also promote further economic, social and cultural exchanges and cooperation between the two sides.
Hung’s visit schedule
Taiwan media report that seven people from the island, including Hung, will attend the meetings. Hung will visit Nanjing before flying to Beijing.
The forum’s agenda is expected to include five major topics: political trust and positive interactions, new economic development and cooperation, people-to-people exchanges, cultural inheritance and innovation, and youth development.
