Su Su was the oldest giant panda at the Chengdu center. At the time of her death, she was the equivalent of 100 in human years.
She had long been suffering from high blood pressure and a heart disorder, along with a decline of liver function, the center said.
In 1986, Su Su was rescued from the wild by the center, then called Chengdu Zoo. At the time of her arrival, experts estimated she was born in around 1983. They discovered that an unknown injury had led to permanent blindness in one eye.

She gave birth to three cubs in her life, that went on to produce the famous "Bang Family". The extended family consisted of 14 pandas and was the largest such group living abroad.
The original three pandas - Yang Bang, Hai Bang and You Bang - were returned to Chengdu from Japan on June 4th 2017.
The average lifespan of wild pandas is normally 20 years, but those in captivity usually live longer.
