The European Commission (EC) has announced it will provide 3.9 million euros to Greece and 6.1 million euros to Bulgaria in emergency funding to address the unfolding refugee crisis.
The Commission said at a press conference on Monday that the funds sent to Greece will be mainly used to improve the livelihood of refugees and help illegal immigrants on the Greek islands by improving catering, accommodation and transportation services.

A sum of 3.6 million euros will be provided to the International Organization for Migration to promote the protection of unaccompanied children, implement the policy of voluntary returns and offer information on migration and on fitting in with local communities. The other 2.5 million euros will be used to help improve migration management and establish an asylum system for refugees.
