The first cooperation meeting of BRICS 2017 opened in Nanjing, east China’s Jiangsu Province on Thursday.
Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi attended the opening ceremony of the meeting and delivered a speech. Coordinators from all sides (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), as well as ambassadors and representatives from the China Development Bank participated in the meeting.
“China will host the ninth Annual BRICS Summit in Xiamen, southeast China’s Fujian Province from September 3 to 5, and President Xi Jinping is paying high attention to the summit, and is expecting to join hands with other member countries to make the Xiamen Summit a success ,” said Yang.
Yang said since the establishment of the BRICS cooperation mechanism in 2006, it has been recognized as a model for cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries.

The BRICS countries should remain confident, jointly address challenges and safeguard common interests amid increasing uncertainties and instability on the international landscape, Yang added.
China hopes to work with other member countries to cooperate under the theme of “deepening the BRICS partnership and opening up a brighter future”, to deepen pragmatic cooperation, improve global governance, and to achieve mutual benefits within the BRICS cooperation mechanism, Yang said.
Yang also mentioned China would uphold the BRICS spirit of openness, inclusiveness and win-win cooperation, and build South-South Cooperation with greater global influence and promote a more equitable and reasonable international order.
Yang said the Xiamen Summit would make rich achievements and open up a brighter future for all BRICS member countries.
The first BRICS cooperation meeting primarily serves to make a political preparation for the BRICS Summit later in the year, and is being held on Thursday and Friday.
