The Syrian army and allied fighters on Saturday fully captured the key city of Mayadeen from ISIL in Syria's eastern province of Deir al-Zour, state news agency SANA reported.

Meanwhile, the US-led coalition fighting ISIL says about 100 of the militant group's fighters had surrendered in Raqqa over the past 24 hours and were subsequently removed from the city. Foreign and local jihadists who have not surrendered are not allowed to leave the ISIL stronghold. The events in Deir al-Zour and Raqqa are the latest in a string of heavy blows for ISIL in Syria.
