Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has spoken out against President Trump's Middle East peace efforts, calling them the "slap of the century". He made the remarks in a fiery two-hour long speech on Sunday. Abbas did not hold back his anger towards Trump, saying "shame on you" for his treatment towards the Palestinians.
MAHMOUD ABBAS PALESTINIAN PRESIDENT "He said in a tweet: We won't give money to the Palestinians because they reject the negotiation. Shame on you, when did we reject the negotiations?"
The outburst came after the US President's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, and plans to move the US embassy there, turning upside down decades of US policy. Abbas warned that he would have no problem rejecting what he suggested would be an unacceptable peace plan. The Palestinian President stated, that by siding with the Israelis on a sensitive issue and countering an international consensus, that the fate of Jerusalem should be decided in negotiations between the sides involved. He added the announcement had destroyed Trump's credibility as a Middle East peace mediator.
