Trump Visits China: Xi Jinping welcomes Donald Trump in Beijing
[]
On this second day of Donald Trump's first visit to China as US President, Chinese President Xi Jinping held a grand ceremony to welcome him. This took place just outside the east gate of the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. CGTN's Yang Zhao has this.

President Xi Jinping stepped outside the Great Hall of the People, to welcome his US counterpart Donald Trump. Both leaders shake hands with key roles in each other's administration. Then they both walk down the red carpet to inspect the guard of honor. Both of them greeted to children from both countries, waving flowers and national flags.

Two leaders step onto the pavilion to watch the performance of the military band. In the later talk with Xi, Mr. Trump said he has been impressed by the whole ceremony.

DONALD TRUMP US PRESIDENT "The hosting of military parade is magnificent and the world is watching. Nothing you can say is so beautiful. I just want to thank you for the warm welcome."

The morning ceremony was a standard procedure for a diplomatic welcome. But China has been keen to show the importance it puts on Trump's visit, calling it a "state-visit plus". Yesterday, Trump started his first China tour with a taste of history and culture by visiting the Forbidden City. The US president and First Lady Melania Trump were accompanied by President Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan.

Trump's visit is also expected to be historic. This is the first head of state to visit China after a major Communist Party of China Congress last month . Both countries hope the summit will generate significant results on bilateral relations and issues of common concern. The DPRK, China-US trade and other cooperation have been included in the their formal talks after the ceremony. Yang Zhao, CGTN.
