UN Special Envoy Staffan de Mistura proposed creating a new constitution for war-torn Syria on the second day of the sixth round of Geneva peace talks on Thursday, according to AFP news agency.
Syrian government representatives expressed their willingness to convene a meeting with the constitution drafting team as soon as possible.

The team will begin work immediately on "specific options for constitutional drafting" in order to "prevent a constitutional or legal vacuum at any point during the political transition process being negotiated," AFP reported, citing a copy of the UN proposal.
The various parties in the six-year Syrian conflict have been holding UN-sponsored peace talks since February 2016, in a bid to find a political solution to a conflict that has claimed more than 320,000 lives since 2011.
