Chinese brands accounted for one tenth of all foreign brands at this year's London Fashion Week, which ran from February 17 to 21. Chinese designers have worked hard to gain a foothold in London's fashion industry, which inspires many stylists.

Zhang Huishan majored in fashion design at Central Saint Martin's College in London. After a one-year internship at Dior, Zhang launched his own brand HUISHAN ZHANG in 2011. London's V&A Museum has put Zhang's designs on display, and Browns Fashion bought his first clothing line.

As the market for the fashion industry continues to shrink in the west, big brands are increasingly looking to China, leading to fierce competition. However, Zhang Huishan believes Chinese brands have their own advantages.
"As a Chinese designer in London, I have connections with both cultures, which helps steer my designs,” said Zhang.

“Not being a big brand, we can design our clothes exactly according to our customers' interests, not like really commercialized big brands."
Currently it is still rare to see Chinese fashion on the international stage. Chinese fashion brands continue to receive little recognition overseas.

But in Zhang Huishan's mind, this is not as important as the product itself. He says designers will attract attention as long as they are good enough.
Zhang Huishan is an up and coming Chinese brand fighting its way to the world stage. Zhang was no one when he first arrived in London a decade ago, but now he is considered as an important emerging designer. He says everything he does is to show the best of China to the world.
