US Deep Freeze: Bone-chilling temperatures continue to grip most of country

Dangerously cold temperatures are gripping much of the United States. The frigid weather has broken records and been blamed for several deaths from the north to the deep south. And forecasts say it's going to get worse. Sarah Dallof has more.
Just days into the new year. New winter weather records in communities across the US. Chicago's high on new year's day, a bone chilling one degree. And conditions haven't improved. Morning commuters making their way to work Tuesday in sub-zero temperatures.
EBONY REYNOLDS CHICAGO "It's just frigid, just biting in the face, just no way around it."
Classes at this Connecticut middle school canceled after heating units on the roof froze. Elsewhere in the state, crews working overtime to thaw infrastructure. "We fix one and it puts more pressure on an another pipe."
A water main break in Davenport, Iowa froze this car in place. " I couldn't even tell you how many inches thick of ice that it has on it."
The cold not just miserable, but life threatening. At least eight deaths in seven states are being attributed to the weather. And the danger isn't over. 116-million people now impacted. And winter storm watches have been issued for as far south as coastal Georgia and Florida. Homeless shelters there scrambling to accommodate overflow.
