The 48th annual World Economic Forum is coming to an end in the Swiss town of Davos. The theme of this year's event is "Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World". On Thursday, or Day Three of the forum, many participants, including British Prime Minister Theresa May, emphasized the importance of globalization, and the need to promote free trade.
THERESA MAY UK PRIME MINISTER "And as we leave the European Union, the UK will continue to be a global advocate of free trade. But there is much more to be done by the whole international community, and frankly, too often our rhetoric in support of free trade here in Davos is not matched by our actions."
Many at the forum shared May's view. In his speech, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called for "inclusive" and strong economic growth in Europe. He said countries should work on new deals to tackle issues like global inequality. With his country set to host this year's G-20 summit, Argentine President Mauricio Macri said world leaders should help their citizens adapt to changes brought about by globalization. Thousands gathered in the small Alpine town, in a bid to address critical global challenges.
