Now for an update on the 20th typhoon to hit China this year. Typhoon Khanun made landfall in Zhanjiang City in the souththern province of Guangdong early this morning. Local weather authorities say Khanun brought gales of up to over 100 kilometers per hour at its eye. After landfall, it weakened into a strong tropical storm. As of Monday afternoon, rain in southern and eastern China appeared to have almost stopped, and the wind died down. But in Taiwan, heavy rain since Friday has caused some highways to collapse. Railway and air service on the island has also been affected. Incomplete statistics from Taiwan's disaster emergency department indicate nearly five hundred mudslides reaching yellow or red alert.
