China and Laos have witnessed rapid development of bilateral relations since the two countries forged diplomatic ties 56 years ago. The two countries' cooperative projects have become a good example of good-neighbourliness. Here's more on the economic partnership.
The successful launch of a Lao communication satellite with a Chinese carrier rocket on Nov. 21, 2015 was the manifestation of achievements made in bilateral relations.
The China-Laos railway is the first overseas route that will connect Laos with the vast railway system in China, using Chinese technology, equipment and investment. The project has a total investment of 6 billion US dollars, 70 percent of which comes from China. In 2016, bilateral trade revenues reached 2.3 billion U.S. dollars, and Chinese investment in Laos reached 5.4 billion U.S. dollars.
Laos-Cambodia border road and other infrastructure projects with Chinese investment, have helped promote connectivity between Laos and neighboring countries, contributing to Laos' turning from a land-locked, to a land-linked country.
