China-Russian relations are at "the best in history", said Yuri Ushakov, foreign affairs advisor to Russian president Vladimir Putin.
Chinese President Xi Jinping is currently in Moscow for a state visit. The meeting between Xi and Putin is the third between the two leaders this year. Later this week, they will head to Hamburg for the G20 Summit.
Alexander Nekrassov, a former Kremlin advisor, said in the program "The Point with Liu Xin", the West is feeling nervous about this Xi-Putin meeting. He said western countries would want to know what Xi and Putin would be talking about.
Yang Xiyu, a senior research fellow at the China Institute of International Studies said Chinese and Russian leaders will discuss pressing issues of mutual interest as well as to the West, such as cooperation on the Korean Peninsula.
China and Russia are both opposed to the deployment of the THAAD missile defense system in South Korea, as it disrupts the strategic balance and threatens the security interests of all countries in the region.
Nekrassov pointed out that in the past 30 years, the West believed that it is the West itself running the world and dictating terms for all other countries. However, during the latest NATO meeting, there was no common understanding of how to resolve these issues, and added NATO had no strategies on how to fight terrorism.
In his opinion, China and Russia are expected to bring opportunities to alleviate the current tense international situation.
