Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is promising to expand his campaign against Kurds in northern Syria all the way to the frontier with Iraq.
Earlier, the United States urged Ankara to limit its strikes and focus on ending the war. While American troops are not in Afrin, they're deployed with Syrian Democratic forces in other parts of Syria to prevent a resurgence of the Islamic State. This means Ankara's push into the Syrian Kurdish town of Manbij could put Turkish troops close to American soldiers.
