Over to South Korea to catch up with the Olympic flame as the torch relay for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Games continued its journey to next February's opening ceremony with a ride down a mountain bike run and a relay through the streets of the city of Ulsan.
Having left the port city of Busan earlier this week, the Olympic flame traveled to a mountain above the industrial city of Ulsan, where Ulsan Cycling Federation vice-president Lee Gwang-sik had the honour of starting this leg of the relay. Lee carried the torch down a trail then strapped it to the back of a mountain bike to continue its descent into the city. From there the flame was paraded through the streets of Ulsan, where it will remain until the weekend when it moves to South Gyeongsang Province.
The relay began in Incheon on November 1st and will travel along a route measuring exactly 2,018 kilometres through nine provinces and eight major cities across South Korea. The flame will be transported by 7,500 torchbearers to its final destination on February 9th when it will light the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony of the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang.
