Jilin: How CPPCC Beijing Committee strengthens democratic supervision

The CPPCC Beijing Committee has set up four democratic supervision teams on the media, fiscal budget, urban management and the rule of law, said Jilin, chairman of the CPPCC Beijing Committee.
Comprised of relevant CPPCC members or experts in the areas, the four teams conducted a series of investigations on many issues in recent years and gave their suggestions in the form of supervision reports to the municipal Communist Party of China committee and the municipal government, playing a proactive role in resolving problems.

Gao Youdong: Improving protection of intellectual property rights

Gao Youdong, secretary general of the Central Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy, stressed that China should improve the protection of intellectual property rights to encourage innovation.
Gao advocated more severe punishments on the infringement or violation of intellectual property rights. “Establishing a scientific and reasonable mechanism to specify the level of compensation is the first step,” he said. “Further improving the ‘rule of law’ for the protection of intellectual property rights is the second.”

Zhao Yang: Overseas Chinese can play role in Belt and Road Initiative

Overseas Chinese can play a role in China’s Belt and Road Initiative, according to Zhao Yang, deputy director of the Committee for Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese under the 12th CPPCC National Committee.
There are more than 60 million overseas Chinese worldwide and over 40 million in 67 countries and regions along the Belt and Road. They can be an asset and an important force for the development of China, said Zhao.
He believes overseas Chinese’s familiarity with both China and the places where they live, along with their wealth and expertise in certain areas, can contribute to the implementation of the initiative.
