Former resistance fighter Francisco Guterres has been sworn in as Timor-Leste's fourth president. In his inauguration speech, the 62-year-old promised to serve the people and fight corruption.

In the Southeast Asian nation, the president plays a mainly ceremonial role, but it is an important post for reinforcing unity, particularly with unemployment running at around 60 percent.

Analysts say the challenge for the country is to wean it away from a reliance on oil money, and diversify its sources of income into agriculture and manufacturing.
