Taiwan civil aviation authorities have rejected the applications for 176 extra cross-Strait flights during next month's Lunar New Year holiday.
The decision is expected to make it difficult for 50-thousand passengers to return Taiwan during the holiday. Taiwan authorities cited security concerns over the newly-opened routes. But some of the island's officials say they remain open to face-to-face negotiations. Additional holiday flights have been a regular practice since 2008, when direct flights between the two sides began.
